New customers may not know how delicious your baked goods are, but they’ll be enticed to try them when the food is displayed artfully. When your items are ready to get some attention, using your commercial refrigeration equipment wisely will help them stay fresh and beautiful.

How to Visually Entice Your Customers

1. Select a Display Case

Different baked goods have different needs. Depending on what you’re offering, you’ll need a dry display case or one with a commercial refrigeration unit.

Dry food display cases are used for goods that don’t need to be preserved by a refrigerator, like breads, cookies, and pastries. Refrigerating them could dry them out.

Choosing to refrigerate cakes is dependent on the ingredients. Some can stay at room temperature, so your customers can enjoy the fine taste and textures. Others, however, are better served cold.

If you’re using meat as an ingredient, you’ll need a refrigerated display case. You should also refrigerate fruit and dairy items, like tarts, cheesecake, and buttercream.

Refrigerate items that use icing. If placed in a dry display case, frosting and icing will melt throughout the day, undoing your artful work.

2. Get Creative

Place cherries on top of the cake or on the pedestal surrounding it. Customers who aren’t aware of the dessert may see the cherries and have positive memories involving them. You can also include little cards that list the ingredients, which can remind customers of the great desserts they’ve had before. They’re more likely to purchase your baked goods based on those positive experiences.

Use stands or pedestals to elevate particular items. When food is more pronounced, it’s more likely to be noticed. Customers will consider the prominent food to be special and are more likely to indulge their curiosity.

3. Keep Everything Clean

You might use pedestals or cleverly decorated wrappers to draw attention to your food, but if the case has smudges on the glass, customers will assume you don’t keep your bakery clean.

Apply the same neatness to your displays. Before opening in the morning, inspect each display from the customer’s side of the case. Errant crumbs and grease smudges on wrappers detract from the beauty and hard work that went into your baking.
