During the summer, you’re likely using your air conditioner more often. When using the unit more frequently, you might notice an increase in condensation and dripping water. Although this is to be expected on scorching hot and humid days, if you have an excessive amount of condensation, you might need air conditioning repair. Here are some reasons you may have this problem.

Why Your Air Conditioner Has Too Much Condensation

1. Dirty Air Filter

air conditioning repairOne common cause for excessive condensation on the air conditioning unit is a dirty air filter. When the filter becomes clogged with dirt and debris, it restricts airflow.

This can cause ice to form on the evaporator coils, which can damage them and lead to other problems requiring air conditioning repair. Changing the filters regularly prevents this issue.

2. Drain and Vent Blockages

Air conditioning drains and vents can easily become clogged by dirt, debris, bacteria, and mold, eventually causing condensation and leaks. Keeping the drain lines and vents clear prevents the condensate pan from overflowing and causing water damage to your home. Regular maintenance of your HVAC system prevents these clogs.

3. Malfunctioning Parts

If the filter is new and working and there aren’t any clogs, then the excess condensation is likely due to a mechanical issue in the system that needs to be handled by an air conditioning repair professional. For example, leaking or damaged seals might allow too much warm air into the unit, increasing condensation.

Inadequate or failing insulation around the unit will also increase condensation. Other potential issues include a malfunctioning condensate pump or a broken or rusty condensate pan.
