Summer is a beautiful time of year for taking trips, which often means driving to fun places. However, since the weather is hottest this time of year, it also makes your prone vulnerable to overheating, which will require professional auto repairs. Here are a few tips to keep your car in good shape so you can drive comfortably throughout the summer.

5 Tips to Keep Your Car From Overheating in the Summer

1. Maintain Fluids

Engine coolant prevents overheating, so replenish it every 30,000 miles or monthly. Store extra coolant in your car so you can refill it on the road. An auto repair technician can also flush the radiator to keep the coolant clean.

2. Clean Filters

To keep the coolant flowing uninhibited, check that the condenser is clear. Remove any debris stuck in it, then spray it with water and let it air-dry.

Look at the air filter too, and replace it if it’s clogged with dirt, dust, and debris.

3. Do Regular Vehicle Inspections

The radiator cap prevents coolant from boiling out and overheating your vehicle, so inspect it for signs of wear when the engine is cool. The engine belt distributes energy to other parts of the engine, so it doesn’t overheat. If either of these parts is broken or worn out, take your car to an auto repair shop for a replacement.

4. Use Tools

5. Drive Responsibly

By driving slowly and avoiding abrupt stops or rapid acceleration, you won’t force your engine to work harder than necessary. Also, spend some time driving with the windows open rather than turning on the air conditioning. When you do turn it on, use the fresh air setting and have the air come up from the floor vents.

Pull over and turn off the engine if the temperature gauge indicates that it’s getting hot.
