Getting a fence installed for your dog will enrich their life and make yours simpler. If done correctly, a fence installation will keep your dog safe, give them the freedom to roam, and allow you the convenience of letting them in and out as they please. Below are some things you should consider about your installation before contacting a fencing contractor.

4 Factors When Planning a Fence Installation for Your Dog

1. What You Want It to Look Like

You should determine what you want your fence to look like and what other purposes you want it to serve. If you want privacy fencing, for instance, then a tall wooden fence  may be the best option. For aesthetics, though, a picket fence that your dog can’t escape from, or a wooden fence that you can stain an appealing color may be the better option.

2. How Much of Your Yard It Should Cover

You’ll also need to decide if you want the fence to enclose all of your yard or only a section of it. Fencing all of your yard will give your dog lots of room. However, if you want an outdoor space that your dog can’t access, like a garden, you may want to leave part of it unfenced.

3. What Your Dog’s Demeanor Is

4. How Tall It Should Be

The height of your fence will depend on two things: how high your dog can jump and whether you want privacy fencing or not. Dogs can jump surprisingly high, so a height of 6-7 feet for a large, energetic dog like a husky is reasonable. Smaller dogs may be contained with a height of 4-5 feet. If you want privacy, the taller the fence, the better, but 6 feet is a common choice.
