Can your furnace's filter system help protect you from airborne virus spread?  The short answer is ... Yes! ... but NOT ALL filter systems can make this claim.

You may already know that certain filter systems can help with allergens such as pollen and mold spores, but viruses are a tougher nut to crack. The BIG PROBLEM is that viruses are REALLY TINY and pass right through most filtration systems. Additionally, there are other factors that affect the ability of a filter system to trap viruses.

Thankfully, the HVAC industry is fortunate to have the braniacs at the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to figure out what truly works.
 
Their recommendation?  Use a 3-pronged attack:

1 - Filtration
2 - Fresh Air
3 - Humidity
