The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic has impacted almost every facet of our daily lives.  From our normal work routines, to our entertainment, to the way we worship, and to the way we stay connected with others.  Many people have been deemed to be essential employees and are working tirelessly in effort to keep things running during this crisis, while many others are currently unemployed or face an uncertain future.  Schools have been closed, stores, sports and entertainment events have been cancelled in an effort to flatten the curve. We have been asked to limit our interactions with our friends and family members, and encouraged to remain at home unless it is necessary to go out.  While we slowly adjust to the new normal, concern is growing amongst medical professionals and medical organizations.  This concern is not only the spread of COVID-19, but that fear of COVID-19 is causing their patients to not seek their regular or emergent care. The CDC has regularly warned us that pre-existing medical conditions such as lung disease, heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure and diabetes are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19.  It is indeed a very scary time for Healthcare workers and patients alike.

At Bland County Medical Clinic we believe that the best offense in the COVID-19 battle is a strong defense.  Our goal is to continue to improve the outcomes for all of our patients both well and sick.  The best way that we can do this is to make sure that our patients are able to keep their appointments both in person or through a virtual appointment.  We have made numerous changes to our facility with procedures based on the guidelines and recommendations from the Center for Disease Control and the Virginia Department of Health.  These changes are intended to keep our patients safe and provide them with a safe, clean environment to have their regularly scheduled appointments.   Some of the steps that we have taken include:

  • Front Door Triage – patients and caregivers are screened before entry into the building
  • Employee screening- all staff are screened for fever prior to being allowed entry past the doorway
  • Curbside visits – patients can be seen in their vehicle in many cases.
  • A special drive up area outside for seeing patients who present with symptoms of COVID-19.
  • Visitor restrictions - We are not allowing family members, significant others, etc. to come back in the exam room with the patient regardless of whether the patient is there for a sick visit or well visit. This is to limit the number of people in the building. The two exceptions will be to allow a parent of minor child back and to allow a caregiver of an individual with cognitive difficulties back. All others are asked to please wait in their vehicles until the patient is done.
  • Virtual visits - Telehealth visits available for established, non-emergent medical and behavioral health visits
  • Delivery Personnel Restrictions – All delivery personnel are met at the door to receive packages
  • Masks worn by staff and patients inside the building.
  •  Exam rooms for sick patients that are quarantined from the rest of the clinic.

During this time of uncertainty, one thing you can be certain of—Bland County Medical Clinic is committed to assuring the health and safety of our patients and staff is our number one priority.   So, please help us take care of you,  keep your appointments, take your medications as prescribed, get plenty of rest and exercise, and don’t ignore warning symptoms of heart attack or stroke because you fear catching Coronavirus.
