A mirror can help you get ready in the morning, or it can serve as a focal point in your home decor. Depending on its placement, it can even be used to reflect the room’s lighting to help it appear larger and more inviting. However, improper hanging could result in accidental wall damage. Below are a few easy solutions that can help you hang even the heaviest of mirrors without damage or hassle.

Top 3 Mirror Hanging Tips

1. Mark the Location First

The proper hanging location will depend on the size and dimensions of the mirror. Generally speaking, mirrors should be hung at eye level for the greatest visual impact. If you are hanging a mirror above furniture, the bottom should be roughly six inches above the top of the furniture. Mirrors placed above bathroom vanities often extend all the way to the vanity top, however. This aids in a person’s ability to properly see themselves without any warping.

2. Find the Center Stud

mirrorHeavy mirrors can put excess strain on the drywall. However, they also need to be firmly anchored to the wall to avoid creating a safety hazard. To minimize the risk of wall damage, heavy mirrors should be mounted into the stud. This provides greater security than merely mounting the mirror in drywall. Wood studs can be found with an electronic stud finder. You should mark these spots with a pencil before you hang the mirror.

3. Choose the Appropriate Wall Anchor

A reliable and sturdy wall anchor will hold the mirror firmly in place. Choose anchors that are rated for the weight of your specific mirror. For example, monkey hooks have a thin gauge and can hold mirrors up to 35 pounds. Some heavy-duty hooks can even hold objects up to 50 pounds. Alternatively, a lightweight mirror could be supported by mirror tape, eliminating the need to make a hole in the drywall.
