Many homeowners install glass shower enclosures because they want to enjoy a sleek, modern design. However, cleaning this material requires some effort to keep it clear and streak-free. To ensure your bathroom fixture doesn't become an eyesore, follow these steps.

How to Keep Your Glass Shower Clean

1. Squeegee Daily

There's a high likelihood of mold and mildew growth when showers remain moist after use, but you can lower these odds in your home by using a squeegee to wipe down the walls after every shower.

Start at the top, squeegee the water to the floor, and pay special attention to the handles and sill ledge if the shower features a window. These two areas are often forgotten and promote soap buildup and mold growth.

2. Use a Spray

shower enclosure

Cleaning the glass shower enclosure once a week or less frequently will encourage soap and hard mineral buildup. Prevent this scrubbing lapse from making you have to work harder by using a daily shower spray after every use.

Mix a cup of water with half a cup of vinegar and a dash of degreasing dish soap. Also, add 10 to 20 drops of essential oil if you want to cover the harsh vinegar scent. Spray this mix after squeegeeing the glass to cut through any buildup. However, don't use this option on a shower with stone tiles, as it's too acidic and may damage the stone.

3. Apply Glass Repellent

Many commercially available glass repellents force water and soap to bead. Apply these household sprays every couple weeks, and the moisture will run down the glass shower enclosure, preventing streaks and mitigating soap scum.

4. Try a Sponge & Toothbrush

When you take a warm shower, soap buildup on the walls will loosen from the heat. Always clean the shower after using it to make it easier to scrub away layered-on suds. Use a wet sponge for the panes, and scrub the hinges, handle, and other hard-to-reach areas with a toothbrush.
