A dryer that continuously shuts down can become quite a nuisance. Not only are your clothes left feeling slightly damp, but you might have to rewash them to reduce the potential for mold and wrinkling. Thankfully, with a few simple precautions, you can avoid the need for dryer repair. Consider the following to determine where to start.

How to Maintain Your Dryer

1. Clean Out Lint

Before loading the clothes from the washer, check the lint screen for buildup. Scrape at the surface with your fingers or a used dryer sheet to loosen the particles, tossing them in the trash once the screen is clear. Neglecting to do so allows clogs to form that obstruct airflow and increase the risk of a fire.

2. Vacuum Vent Cap

Wipe down the interior with a clean microfiber cloth and use a lengthy vacuum attachment to clear out the rest.

3. Only Tumble Clean Fabric

Tossing in a load of outdoor clothing that got wet in the rain or snow could cause issues. Dirt can come loose during the cycle and accumulate along the inside of the machine. Over time, this could reduce efficiency and require dryer repairs, so ensure everything is clean before starting a load.

4. Avoid Overloads

Putting too many clothes in a single load tends to prevent the even dispersion of heat. Plus, it overworks the machine and could result in a need for dryer repair. Fill it approximately halfway for small and medium loads. Larger quantities should be no more than three-quarters the way full to ensure sufficient airflow.
