The College Board recently announced that it has added September 26 as the new SAT test date in fall 2020.

Starting in August, students will have an opportunity to take the SAT once each month up until December. The testing dates will be as follows:

  • August 29
  • September 26
  • October 3
  • November 7
  • December 5

Students who have not taken a previously administered official SAT can begin registering for these test dates starting in May. Early registration access will be made available to students who have already registered for a June SAT (which was cancelled) or those students who are in the class of 2021 and do not have official SAT scores yet.

Answering Your Questions

At Peach State Tutoring & Test Prep, many parents and students ask about next steps with respect to testing and test preparation which we have answered below.

What if future SAT test dates get cancelled?

The College Board is aware that COVID-19 is a changing public health concern. While they feel confident they’ll be able to provide testing in person in fall, they are also working on a digital option for the SAT to be taken at home in case in-person options are not available.

Students will have the opportunity to take the SAT in fall.

I’m a rising Senior in August 2020 and have never taken the SAT (or ACT). What do I do?

If your child will be a Senior in August 2020 and has never taken the SAT or ACT exam, it is still not too late. Ideally, rising seniors should register for the August 29 SAT exam date so that they have more chances to improve their score should they need to. By taking the August 29 exam, your child will have the September 26, October 3, and possibly even the November 7 exam (depending on the university they apply to) as opportunities to improve their score if needed.

I started Test Prep for an earlier exam that got cancelled; what should I do?

If your child planned for the March, May, or June SATs which are now cancelled, plan on having them take the earliest available SAT exam (August 29) to ensure that their prep is still fresh. Review, review, review. Make sure your child thoroughly reviews the materials they received from Peach State Tutoring and goes over the problems, sample exercises, and strategies they learned from the instructors to make sure they’re ready on Test Day. If you still feel like your child needs help, contact us to arrange for tutoring.

When should I start Test Prep for a future SAT date?

Students at Peach State Tutoring & Test Prep typically begin their test preparation about 2 to 3 months before an actual SAT test date and usually follow these easy steps to get started.

  1. Start by taking our Free ACT vs SAT Diagnostic (which your child can take at home during COVID-19 -- just email us if you’d like them to take it) so we can see which areas your student needs help with most (and which test they’re doing better on). You can also share past official scores and we can build a schedule from that. Simply email them to us.

  2. Discuss your diagnostic test results (via phone), goal scores, and improvement needs, so we can customize a schedule for your teen and target a specific test date.

  3. Parents and students approve the tutoring schedule and your teen starts preparing for their target test date!

Navigating the new SAT and ACT testing environment can be confusing to say the least. If you have any questions, call Peach State Tutoring & Test Prep and we can walk you through next steps for your child.
