Preschool introduces your child to an entirely new world. During these important formative years, your little one will learn new concepts and meet new people. It’s an exciting time, but it can also be daunting and overwhelming for children to spend time in an unfamiliar environment with people they don’t recognize. If you’re preparing to enroll your child, here are a few steps to help them get ready for this milestone.

How to Prepare Your Child for the Preschool Experience

1. Visit the School Together

Visiting the school before the first day is an effective step that you can take to help your child. Go together, walk around the premises, and meet with the teacher. Ask the teacher to show your little one where they’ll keep their bag, eat lunch, and play.

Small introductions can help. Create an aura of excitement so that your little one associates preschool with something fun.

2. Play School at Home

preschoolPlaytime at home can also be an opportunity to teach your child about school. Pretend that you’re a teacher and teach them basic concepts, such as the alphabet and counting.

You can even place dolls or stuffed animals on chairs to create an in-home classroom filled with students. Encourage your little one to raise their hand whenever they have a question. The idea is to help them grow accustomed to something resembling the classroom experience.

3. Be an Involved Figure

Your child will always feel more comfortable if you play an integral role in the process. Begin by staying with them during the first few minutes of the first day. Provide a hug and a few positive words about the day ahead.

If they seem nervous, remind them that you’ll be back soon and that they’re going to have a lot of fun making new friends. It also helps to establish a connection with the teacher. Remain in regular contact, take part in activities that involve parents, and pick up your little one on time each day.
