If you’ve scrubbed, scoured, and sprayed chemicals to no avail, it’s about time you tried a pressure washer. However, with so many options, how will you know which unit is best suited to your purpose? These basics will guide you to the right type for you.

What Are Different Types of Pressure Washers?

1. Cold Water

Cold water pressure washers are affordable and easy to use. Most are geared more toward household than contractor use, but there are also commercial models available. Commercial models are powerful enough to clear away old paint.

People commonly use cold water washers to clean dirt or mud off their siding, decks, and other elements of their properties. Many add detergent to their washer to make it even more effective. Cold water units tend to be more compact and thus easier to store and transport.

2. Hot Water

Drying time is shorter with a hot water washer than with a cold one because heat makes the water evaporate faster. High temperates will also kill mold and bacteria. However, hot water pressure washers are bulkier and more expensive than their cold counterparts.

3. Electric- or Gas-Powered

Once you decide whether cold or hot water better suits your needs, your next decision will be whether to opt for a gas-powered or electric unit.

Electric washers are light and compact. They’ll take care of most cleaning projects on your property, and are ideal for delicate surfaces like windows or vehicles. They’re quiet and environmentally friendly. However, their power supply is limited by an electrical outlet, making them harder to transport around your property.

Alternatively, gas units are not limited by an electrical outlets and are easier to use around your yard. They’re also more powerful and can make your work more efficient. However, they are noisy and emit toxic fumes; you won't be able to use it inside or on delicate surfaces.
