You might think that the annoying noise your air conditioner is making is just a small inconvenience. However, this could lead to damage over time or even make the AC unsafe to use. If you hear any of the following noises, call an HVAC contractor right away.

Which Sounds Mean You Should Call an HVAC Contractor?

1. Banging

If you hear a loud banging coming from your air conditioner, this probably means you have an issue with the motor or blower. If the blower is out of alignment, the sound becomes louder when the component activates. If it’s the motor, the mount may have come loose.

2. Buzzing or Popping

If you hear a loud buzzing or popping noise when you run the air conditioner, you’re probably dealing with an electrical issue. This could come from the circuit breaker or be caused by loose wiring. Electrical problems can be hazardous, so have a professional inspect it instead of investigating it yourself.

3. Screeching

Alternatively, you can tell if it’s the compressor if you hear the noise only when the air conditioning turns on. This might mean that the compressor has high levels of pressure, which can be dangerous.

4. Hissing or Bubbling

Hissing is usually a sign of a leak in your AC’s refrigerant line. This can cause your air conditioning to stop cooling properly. Also, it’s unsafe for humans to come into contact with refrigerants.
