Fresh pizza is best served hot, but a ride in a cold car can leave you with a luke-warm pie when you get home. To ensure your dinner stays as warm as possible, no matter how long your drive is, follow these steps.

How to Keep Takeout Pizza Fresh in the Car

1. Insulated Container

Most pizza delivery services arrive with your pie in an insulated bag. Even if it’s freezing outside, when they open the bag, your food is still piping hot. Luckily, you can do the same to keep your takeout warm.

If you have an insulated bag or cooler, put your pie inside to keep it warm. If nothing else, lay a blanket or a heavy jacket over the box, or even use a heating pad.

2. Car Heater

pizzaUse your car’s heaters to your advantage. If you’re using the central vents, put the pizza in the passenger seat and angle the vents downward. If you’re using floor vents, set it in the passenger-side floorboard. If your car has heated seats, you’ll have an even easier time keeping your food warm. Set the box in the passenger seat, turn up the heated seat, and lay a jacket over it to hold the warmth in place.

3. Sunlight

If all else fails, sunlight is your friend. Especially during the summer, if you can fit the box on your dashboard, it’s sure to stay warm. If it's too big, find the sunniest place in your car and make sure your AC is directed elsewhere.
