Welding is a common service needed on a farm, whether it’s repairing an older piece of equipment or customizing a new one. When managing a farm, you will need to know which jobs require a weld for a long-term, effective solution. Below are a few common reasons farmers call for welding services.

When to Use Welding for Your Farm

1. Fix Broken Hinges

weldingFarm gates see a lot of wear and tear over the years as they are opened and closed, and bear the weight of large animals pressing against them. A damaged hinge should be repaired as quickly as possible to prevent your herd from getting loose. Your welder will use a bar stock and a welding tube to repair the hinge rather than needing to replace the entire gate.

2. Patch Flat Surfaces

Welding can be used to patch holes or other damage on a flat metal surface as well. This makes it a common solution for fixing rusted or worn floors, walls, trailer beds, and planters. The new patch will create an airtight seal that keeps out moisture to create a more long-term solution than a pop rivet or cover.

3. Customize Equipment

Sometimes, the equipment you have on hand or that is on the market doesn’t suit your needs. A weld can customize this equipment to better prepare it for your job. For example, a weld help reinforce a livestock trailer so it can bear more weight. You can add rows to a planter by ordering the extra parts and welding them onto your current planter. You also can reinforce your vehicle’s trailer hitch, so you won’t risk losing a load.
