For many parents, preparing the nursery is one of the most significant steps to getting ready for their new addition. If you’re expecting for the first time, you may be overwhelmed by all of the decisions that go into cultivating your baby’s perfect space, including selecting a paint color. Fortunately, with some forethought and the help of a residential painting contractor, this part of the job doesn’t have to be so hard. Here are a few tips for selecting a shade.

4 Tips for Painting a Nursery

1. Go Easy on Red

Red can evoke feelings of passion, for better or worse. It is often associated with love but also aggression. For this reason, it’s best to limit red in a child’s room. If you love the shade, consider incorporating it as an accent. For instance, you might select white throw rugs or curtains, or bedding with a red pattern over a white background. Your residential painting contractor may also suggest an accent wall to add pizzazz.

2. Consider Calming Tones

Regardless of your child’s gender, blue can be a fantastic shade because of its soothing qualities. Select lighter shades, such as sky blue, aqua, periwinkle, or duck egg for the majority of the room. Relegate deep blue, such as Navy and dark blue-gray, to accents as these tend to be more solemn.

3. Be Neutral

Neutral shades, including beige, cream, light tan, and light gray, as well as light shades of green, reflect those found in the natural world. These earthy shades are naturally soothing, helping your baby stay grounded. Neutral tones also tend to age well, making it easy to change up the decor as your child grows.

4. Perk Up With Pink & Purple

Pink and purple are classic nursery choices, particularly for little girls. However, steer clear of overly bright colors such as neon or bright Fuchsia as these can be overstimulating for your baby’s peepers. Your child is also likely to grow out of these in a few years. Instead, select lighter tones such as blush, lilac, coral, or lavender.
