Many people are currently working at home due to COVID-19. It’s easy to pick up unhealthy habits when you’re surrounded by temptation. Furthermore, staying in can put a damper on your exercise routine if you are used to going to the gym or jogging with friends. The following weight management guide offers advice for staying healthy during these uncertain times.

How to Avoid Gaining Weight While Working From Home

1. Surround Yourself With Healthy Food Choices

It’s easy to eat junk food all day if that’s what you see every time you open the fridge or pantry. To avoid temptation, limit those foods in your home and stick to snacks like nuts, granola, veggies, and yogurt.

If you have to keep salty or sweet snacks around for other family members, try storing them in the back of the pantry behind healthier choices so you won’t be as tempted.

2. Build Workouts Into Your Schedule

weight managementWhen your work is easily accessible at all times, you may feel obligated to work all the time. However, regular exercise is important even if you can’t make it to the gym. Set aside work for an hour by building physical activity into your schedule.

If you don’t have workout equipment at home, go for a quick run a few times per week or try a yoga or pilates workout; there are many videos you can follow along with on YouTube®.

3. Get Dressed Every Day

Sweatpants may be comfortable attire for working from home, but they make it easy to overlook weight gain and can encourage a sedentary lifestyle. Even if you’re not going into the office, put on real clothes to keep your normal habits alive. If you notice your pants getting a bit tight, try a new workout or cut down on the afternoon snacks.
