There are plenty of access control systems to prevent your house or apartment from being broken into. There are also little tricks you can do to make your property appear less vulnerable to potential thieves. Keep your home safe from threats by checking out the tips below.

How Can You Protect Your Home?

1. Motion Detector Lights

Some criminals wait until nightfall to make a burglary attempt. However, if they see that someone is home or that there’s a chance of getting caught, they will abandon the plan. Consider installing motion detector flood lights on the sides of your home or right outside of your apartment door. A large beam of light will immediately switch on after sensing any movement, scaring burglars off before they attempt to breach any access control systems.

2. Put Lights on Timers

Many potential thieves will wait until a home is empty before attempting to rob it. A clever way to avoid this is to place electrical timers inside a few of your rooms with windows. These will turn lights on and off periodically to give the impression that someone is home. Some people also program their televisions to turn on and off for the same effect. You may be able to control these timers through an app on your smartphone depending on the technology you have.

3. Ask Someone to Collect Your Mail

Next time you plan to go on a trip, ask a friend or neighbor to retrieve your mail for you and keep it at their residence until you get home. You could also contact your post office and ask them to hold your mail for a short period of time.
