Home remodeling is about making the living space a better place for everyone who resides there, which includes your furry friends. Here are a few remodeling ideas to make pet care easier.

5 Home Remodeling Ideas for Pet Owners

1. Animal-Friendly Showers

If you prefer to clean your pets indoors, spruce up the bathing area for their needs. A shower is easier than a tub for pets to enter. A glass shower door will catch more water than a curtain while you clean your pet to keep the floor outside dry.

It’s also smart to invest in a handheld showerhead to rinse off soap and shampoo without getting water in your pet’s face. To keep your pet steady on their feet, place a non-slip mat inside the shower.

2. Pet Doors

3. Mudrooms

If you’re worried your animal may track dirt inside, set up a mudroom. This small, vestibule-like room can be installed by any entrance, though it’s often placed by the garage or back door.

Unlike a traditional foyer, it’s designed to contain dirt to keep the rest of the house clean. Here is where you’ll pull off your mud-stained clothes and shoes as well as wash off your pet’s paws.

Along with stain- and moisture-resistant floors, install plenty of storage to keep brushes, towels, and other tools to clean your pet’s fur and feet. You may also want to place laundry machines and a large sink here for convenience.

4. Feeding Stations

While the dining table is your place to eat, you can make mealtime just as special for your furry friends by setting up a feeding station in the corner of the kitchen or den. They’ll have a designated spot to eat, and you can also keep their bowls and food there to make feeding faster and neater.

5. Enclosed Patios

An enclosed patio lets pets enjoy the fresh air and sunshine without you worrying about them chasing after another animal, a blowing leaf, or any other distraction. Install walls or fences at least twice the height of a dog when they’re standing upright. For cats, install netting around the enclosure to deter them from climbing over.
