As the weather starts to warm, it’s not long before you’ll be making the switch from your furnace to your AC system. When you do, you may encounter a range of common problems. To help you diagnose any malfunctions or underperformance you encounter, the guide below explains common problems that might require HVAC maintenance this summer.

Common Problems Your HVAC System Might Encounter

1. Sluggish Airflow

If it feels like hardly any air is making it to or through the vents, there could be several culprits. Leaky or clogged ductwork is a major source of air loss and can be easily remedied by sealing the seams of your vents. In other cases, a filter clogged with debris can bottleneck the air entering the HVAC unit, meaning there won’t be enough air to reach all the vents.

2. Lukewarm Air

hvac maintenanceYour HVAC system passes air over coils filled with cooled refrigerant to cool the air, then circulates the spent coolant to the outdoor condenser unit where it exchanges heat with the surrounding air. If your refrigerant is leaking, the air coming out of your vents could feel much warmer than it should. Leaks in the line will cause coolant to escape, eventually rendering your HVAC unable to cool the indoor air quickly enough.

3. Skyrocketing Energy Costs

In the few months between winter’s cold and summer’s heat, you might be able to get away with running your HVAC system infrequently. As well, when the heat spikes, it’s not uncommon for your energy bills to go up. However, if they’re more expensive than the previous year, you might be dealing with poor thermostat settings or an outdated, inefficient air conditioning unit. Have an HVAC maintenance technician visit to pinpoint where you’re losing the most energy.
