If you’re having an apartment complex built on your property, the interior design of the lobby sets the tone for the rest of the building. This is the first area potential residents visit, so it helps them decide if they see themselves living in the building. Here are some tips for designing a practical and aesthetically appealing entrance hall.

How to Set Up a Lobby for a Residential Building

1. Install Varied Lighting

There are different types of lighting fixtures for a range of purposes.

For instance, overhead fixtures, which can be recessed for added sleekness, provide overall illumination. You can use a dimmer switch to brighten the place up at night or provide low light in the afternoon. Wall sconces look attractive and high-end near elevators and doors.

2. Choose Low-Maintenance Flooring

Flooring that’s easy to clean ensures the building always looks pristine. Tile flooring comes in a variety of colors and textures while also being durable. Laminate and luxury vinyl mimic the look of hardwood without the added maintenance requirements.

Add some mats in front of doors to prevent debris from entering. Choose options with rubber backs to give residents places to wipe their shoes and prevent slip and falls.

3. Prioritize Safety

If you don’t have a doorman, install a high-quality deadbolt. Card-access and fob key systems are modern alternatives for new constructions. A buzzer system is also a simple way to improve convenience for residents without a need for a concierge.

To further improve security, install surveillance cameras around the lobby to monitor entry points and elevators.
