Many couples are currently scrambling to reschedule their weddings due to concerns about the coronavirus. It’s completely understandable to be upset or frustrated by the situation, but it’s also important to take steps toward a plan B. By working with your planner, caterer, and close family and friends, you can still salvage a wedding day, even if it doesn’t fall on the same date as you originally planned.

Steps to Take When Rescheduling a Wedding

1. Reach Out to Vendors

Whether you’re rescheduling a wedding because of the coronavirus or personal matters, your vendors have likely encountered cancellations and postponements before. Reach out to them to explain the situation and ask about your options. Even if you have a contract, they may have some flexibility to help you schedule another date in the future.

Reach out to your caterer, venue, photographer, and any other service providers directly to explain your postponement and see what other dates they have available. Especially in the current public health crisis, they’re likely to understand and help you as best they can.

2. Contact Your Guests

weddingAs soon as you decide to postpone the event, reach out to your guests to let them know. You may send out texts or social media posts immediately, but you should also contact guests who might not see your updates on those platforms. Send out official announcements via mail or email, or however you initially invited people. Then keep them updated as soon as you choose a new date or make alternative arrangements.

3. Consider Flexible Options

Your vendors and guests may not be able to make it to a rescheduled wedding if you pick another Saturday as soon as the crisis passes. It may be worthwhile to consider some flexible options like Sundays or even an off-season wedding. If people in your area rarely get married in the winter, you may have a better chance of guests being able to attend, and for caterers to have fewer events scheduled.
