A Guide to Home Golf Practice, Evendale, Ohio

For many golfers, being stuck at home can lessen your golf practice routine. Luckily, there are plenty of fantastic ways to practice your game from the comfort of your living room with just a few simple pieces of equipment. For those days when you can’t make it to the course or the driving range, here are a few ways you can improve your short game at home.

What Every Golfer Should Know About Improving Their Game

1. Improve Strength Training

One of the most important basic qualities needed for golf is flexibility and upper body strength. Using one of the heavier clubs in your bag or a specially weighted practice club, try building up your endurance to the point where you can comfortably swing a club 25 to 50 times a day with good form. Set aside space in a larger room, like the garage, and with time and practice, you could add up to 3 miles per hour to your club speed.

2. Practice Indoor Putting Drills

Putting is one of the easiest things to practice, but also one of the most overlooked. If you’re kept indoors on an overcast day, you can sharpen your putting skills by marking out straight lines with masking tape, then use the tape as a directional guide to practice putting in a straight line. The next time you’re on the green, you’ll find your short game remarkably improved by using this simple golf practice technique.

3. Use a Floor-Length Mirror

Every golfer knows that form is about much more than appearance. Having good form determines the length and quality of your entire shot, from takeaway to follow-through.

Set aside 15 feet of open space and position a full-length mirror to check your posture, alignment, grip, ball position, and swing plane. With comfortable muscle memory and confidence in your form, don’t be surprised if your performance is much stronger the next time you play a full round.

4. Set Up a Net

For chipping and practicing your swing in general, a net is an invaluable tool to set up at home. With a sturdy net to whack balls into, you’ll be able to focus more on tempo and mechanics without worrying about breaking a window.

An essential part of golf practice from beginners to pros, you can find purpose-made models from reliable retailers or make one yourself from sturdy bulk netting.
