Ground penetrating radar (GPR) is a process that uses high-frequency radio waves to identify objects underground. How Does GPR Work?

A GPR transmitter sends tiny waves of electromagnetic radiation through solid matter via an antenna. The reflected waves are stored and displayed on a screen, where they can be analyzed and compiled into data by a trained operator.

The radio waves can reach depths of up to 100 feet in low conductivity surfaces, such as granite or dry sand, and up to three feet in high conductivity masses, such as moist clay or shale.
