With the weather getting warmer each day, you’re probably looking forward to grilling out in your yard soon. However, this cooking appliance needs thorough cleaning and maintenance before it’s ready to use. Here are a few ways to get your grill ready for barbecuing.

4 Steps for Cleaning Grills

1. Remove Dirt & Grime From Grates

grillGrease, dirt, and other grime on grates can prevent your grill from cooking food evenly and can even interfere with the taste of the food. To get the grates super clean, apply a mixture of two cups of vinegar and one cup of baking soda to them, and allow them to soak overnight. In the morning, rinse them off with water.

2. Clean the Grease Trap

Most grills have a tray that collects grease from cooking meats. Because grease can catch fire, it’s important to empty it in the trash. Then put aluminum foil on the trap to save you time cleaning in the future. Just remove the foil and replace it with a clean sheet each time you grill.

3. Look for Signs of Damage

Grills can experience wear and tear after a while, so inspect yours thoroughly for signs of rust and check fuel lines to ensure they aren’t loose and that they have no cracks or leaks. If you can’t tell whether they are loose or have cracks or leaks, apply soapy water to the fuel line and turn on the propane tank. If the water bubbles, gas is escaping from a loose or cracked component. Try tightening the connections first, and if that doesn’t work, you may need to replace the line or call a repair technician to fix the issue.

4. Clean the Exterior

Your grill’s exterior has also likely accumulated dirt and grime since last summer. To help it look like new, wipe down the exterior with soapy water and a soft-bristle brush. Use gentle strokes to prevent scratching the surfaces.
