Have you recently purchased a new pair of glasses? While this can bring about many positive changes—including better vision and a stylish new look—you might also experience headaches during the adjustment period. The guide below explains what to expect.

3 Causes of Vision-Related Headaches

1. Wrong Prescription

Headaches for the first two to three days are normal as your eyes learn to refocus due to a new prescription. However, if they last longer than that, consider calling your eye doctor. There is a chance that the strength of your prescription in one or both eyes is slightly off, causing you to strain to see correctly, which, in turn, creates tension headaches.

2. Uncomfortable Frame Design

Other people can develop headaches due to ill-fitting frames if they place pressure on various parts of your head and face. If you think this might be the case, return to the eye doctor’s to test other shapes and sizes. Ideally, the bridge shouldn’t pinch your nose; the temples and earpieces also shouldn’t press too hard against your head.

3. Digital Eye Strain

glassesIt is also possible that your headache comes from engaging in too much screentime—and is a separate issue from your new glasses. Known as eye fatigue, it is common among gamers and those that work long hours in front of the computer.

Try following the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look away from your screen at an object 20 feet away for 20 seconds to see if that alleviates tension. Specialty glasses can also be purchased that filter out the blue light from screens.
