Correctly storing your snowmobile during the summer months is essential to keeping it in excellent shape for the next winter. However, if you’re new to riding and taking care of a recreational vehicle, you may not know where to start. Here are three tips to help you prepare for storage.

How to Store Your Snowmobile During the Off-Season

1. Treat the Gasoline

If your snowmobile has a full tank of gas before you store it, you’ll need to treat it with a fuel stabilizer. If the gas sits for too long without being used, it evaporates and causes corrosion in the carburetor. Adding a stabilizer keeps the gasoline from breaking down.

2. Fog the Engine

SnowmobileFogging the engine is necessary if you don’t plan on starting it at least once a month during the off-season. This process coats the inside of the engine so that moisture can’t get in and cause corrosion. You can do this by exposing the carburetor and spraying the oil directly into the intake.

3. Wash Your Snowmobile

During the winter season, your snowmobile picks up dirt and salt particles while you’re riding it and during transport. This debris can corrode the metal on the outside of the vehicle, so it’s important to thoroughly wash and dry it before putting it in storage. When you’re finished, place a protective cover over it to keep it clean and free of moisture.
