Moving is usually preceded by a lengthy packing period. While wrapping up all of your belongings can seem daunting, there are ways to make it easier. Here are some of the most common packing mistakes to avoid.

4 Common Packing Mistakes

1. Working Without a Plan

Save items that will be used regularly, such as personal hygiene items and electronics’ chargers, for last. Nonessential items like movies, books, and clothes that haven’t been worn in a while can go into boxes first.

Also, pack up one room at a time to avoid cluttering up several spaces and keep related items together.

2. Using Low-Quality Supplies

Flimsy or old boxes may not hold up through the duration of a move and could put contents in danger. The same is true with the type of tape used. Get packing tape, which will withstand humid conditions and bumps in the road a moving truck may encounter.

3. Not Labeling Boxes

movingMake your future unpacking easier by labeling boxes as you fill them. Basic classifications like the contents and the designated room will make unloading more organized. You can use a label printer, write on tape, or just write on the boxes themselves.

4. Taking Unnecessary Items

Many people try to cram all of their belongings into boxes without considering where the items will go in the new home. This is a big mistake when moving to a smaller place since you won’t have as much room. You also don’t want to spend the time or money packing up items you won’t use.

Before packing something, consider how often you use it. If it doesn’t seem worth moving, consider donating it to a local charity.
