Ceramic tile floors deliver an elegant look to any space. However, although they’re water-resistant, they do require some regular maintenance to maintain their pleasing aesthetic. They can be covered in debris and become stained, so keep yours in pristine condition by remembering the following cleaning tips.

How to Clean Ceramic Tile Floors

1. Sweep

At least once a week, use a soft-bristled broom and dustpan to remove any larger debris that has accumulated on the surface. Soft-bristled brooms are preferred to avoid scratching any of the tiles. Get as much dust and dirt off the grout as well.

Once the larger debris has been removed, go back over the floors with a vacuum. Use the brush attachment to remove any lingering debris and clear up anything left by the dustpan.

2. Wash

Tile FloorsGiving your floors a thorough scrubbing removes any built-up grime and stains that are marring the appearance of your tile floors. There are many commercial cleaning solutions you can buy at a home improvement store, but you can also make your own solution at home. Just mix ¼ cup of white vinegar with two gallons of water and apply the mixture using a mop.

Let the cleaner sit for at least 10 minutes, and use a toothbrush to remove difficult stains on the grout. Rinse the solution using warm water and dry it using a microfiber cloth.

3. Buff

To maintain its shiny appearance, buff the floor three to four times a year. Before polishing it, make sure the floor is completely clear of dust, dirt, and debris to avoid damaging the tiles. If you don’t have a buffing machine, you can rent the equipment for a day to deep clean your house.

Much like a vacuum, you simply turn it on and guide it across the floor. Focus on smaller, individual areas until the entire house is complete. If you’re only cleaning individual rooms, skip the equipment rental and use furniture polish instead. Spray it onto your tiles and use a clean rag to buff them until the polish has been worked in.
