Exposure to ultraviolet rays can cause macular degeneration, retina damage, cataracts, and growths on the eyes and eyelids. Even on a cloudy day, most ultraviolet light still filters through and can harm your eyes. Wearing UV-rated sunglasses is an absolute must anytime you head outdoors.

2. Smoking

Smoking doesn’t just harm your lungs. It is a known contributor to cataracts and age-related macular degeneration, both of which result in vision loss. Smoking can also contribute to dry, irritated eyes for both the smoker and anyone who is exposed to secondhand smoke. Protecting your vision is just one more reason to quit!

3. Getting Too Much Screen Time

Whether you work in front of a computer all day or spend your free time scrolling through social media on your smartphone, too much screen time can do a lot of damage to your eyes. Staring at a screen can increase eye strain and contribute to dry eyes and headaches. At a minimum, you should take 10-minute breaks from your screen every hour.
