Springtime is known for its long days, renewed vegetation, and warmer weather, which can be managed with A/C services. However, it’s also known for an increase in pollen production. As a result, many people with sensitivities and allergies deal with sneezing, congestion, rashes, itchy or watery eyes, and even difficulty breathing. If this describes you or a member of your household, here’s how to keep pollen out of the home.

How to Reduce Indoor Pollen in the Spring

1. Change Air Filters

To keep your environment clean, the air filter in your HVAC system picks up various pollutants, such as pollen, that float inside. If there’s too much accumulation, the filter won’t work properly.

Certain filters, like fiberglass, should be changed monthly, while pleated filters can be replaced every six months. You can ask an A/C services technician for help with this task.

2. Remove Dust & Dirt

The dust and dirt that get inside your home often contain pollen in the spring. Dust your shelves and tables and vacuum your floors several times a week to keep it out. Additionally, ask an A/C services expert about their air duct cleaning services to ensure that your ducts are clear of pollen and other allergens.

3. Close Cracks, Doors, & Windows

No matter how often you clean your home, your efforts may not be effective if pollen continuously drifts inside. Keep your doors and windows closed, and call an HVAC technician for A/C repair if it makes your home feel uncomfortably warm. Also, check your walls and windows for cracks and gaps. Caulk any openings that you find.

4. Wash Bedding & Clothes

A/C servicesHopefully, you’re already washing your bedding and clothes regularly. However, since pollen may cling to your clothes and then find its way into your bedding when you lie down after a long day, it could be beneficial to wash them more frequently than usual. For the same reason, you may want to be especially diligent about showering.

5. Bathe Pets

As the weather gets warmer, your pets may relish spending more time outdoors. Unfortunately, that means they’re likely to pick up pollen and carry it into your home in their fur. Bathe them at least once a week or anytime they seem especially dirty so that the pollen is removed.
