Having a carefully curated selection of high-quality jewelry is something most people aspire to. Once you finally have the pieces you desire, proper care will ensure that they stay in top-quality condition. For the best results, follow the helpful tips below.

3 Effective Ways to Clean Jewelry

1. Soap & Water

This simple solution is one of the most effective ways to keep your jewelry tarnish-free. Mix a bit of dish soap with some warm water and place your jewelry in the bowl. Leave the pieces in for no more than 15 minutes. Then brush them with a soft toothbrush, rinse with cool water, and allow them to air dry.

2. White Vinegar

jewelryIf you’re running low on dish soap, white vinegar is an excellent substitute. This all-purpose, all-natural cleaner can be used to freshen most types of jewelry, from gold to silver. Much like soap and water, all you need to do is place your treasures in a bowl of white vinegar and allow them to soak. Leave the pieces in for up to 20 minutes, and then gently clean them with a soft cloth. Just don’t use this mixture on any jewelry with gems or pearls, as this acidic treatment could damage them.

3. Ammonia

If you have pieces that are severely tarnished, opt for ammonia. Create a solution of one part ammonia to six parts water. Let the jewelry soak for up to a minute and then rinse with cool water and let it air dry. Take care not to use this mixture on pearls, opals or platinum, as this formula can cause those items to degrade.
