Regardless of what you’re shipping for freight delivery, you should pack every item carefully for the journey. To ensure your products arrive at their destination in one piece and your customers are always satisfied, follow these tips.

3 Tips for Freight Packing

1. Use the Right Materials

If your products have to cross the Pacific, they should be packed in durable boxes without any wiggle room. After placing each item in its respective box, fill the empty space that remains with paper, foam peanuts, or bubble wrap. The more secure the item is, the less it will jostle en route.

Seal each box with specially formulated packing tape that’s at least two inches wide. If you use alternatives like masking tape, the adhesive may come undone before the box reaches its destination.

2. Stack Pallets With Care

Once you’re ready to stack everything, start with the heaviest boxes on the bottom, and don’t allow for any overhang. Each box should be placed squarely on the pallet’s frame.

Try to distribute the weight as evenly as you can, and stack the boxes in such a way that the top is flat.

3. Secure Shipments With Shrink-Wrap

Once the pallets are loaded, secure their contents with shrink-wrap. If you’re shipping fragile items, wrap some kind of cushioning material around the boxes first to provide an added layer of protection. Then use shrink-wrap to keep everything snugly in place while in transit. Starting at the bottom, wrap the entire pallet with several layers for optimal security.
