Keeping your eyeglasses clean is essential for your vision and eye health. Smudges and grease can cloud your line of sight. Clean lenses look attractive and ensure you’re able to see well.

Do:

Use water and soap.

It’s a good idea to clean your eyeglasses on a daily basis.

Wet both sides of the lenses with lukewarm water and apply one drop of mild dish soap to each. Carefully massage the soap into the surface with your fingertips or a soft microfiber cloth. Rinse them with lukewarm water.

Single-use moist wipes are also available for times when you’re on the go.

Keep your eyeglasses in a protective case.

Eyewear should never be stored out in the open. This not only increases their risk of breaking, but it can also cause dust to accumulate on the lenses. Store them in a hard-shell protective case.

Don’t:

Wipe them with your shirt.eyeglasses

Many fabrics are scratchy and abrasive. Even if the article of clothing is soft, it may contain dust or other particulates.

At best, these materials won’t effectively remove smudges; at worst, they’ll scratch the lenses. To keep your glasses in good shape, only wipe them with a lint-free cloth.

Clean them with household products.

Glass cleaners work well for windowpanes, but that doesn’t mean they should be used on your eyeglasses. Household cleaners contain harsh chemicals that degrade the protective lens coating. They also irritate your eyes.
