Your industrial radiator is vital to your equipment. It keeps temperatures from rising too high and overheating. Because of this, regular maintenance is crucial, but there are a few common problems you may face. Below are several of them to know.

Issues With Industrial Radiators

1. Cracks & Holes

Over time, the metal in your industrial radiator will oxidize, leaving it prone to degradation. Also, the constant change in temperatures will lead to wear and tear that can break down the metal and crack it. Many cracks happen along the coolant drainage tube, but there may also be tiny holes from corrosion and rust throughout.

2. Leaks

Once corrosion and cracks set in, coolant leaks occur. If you notice coolant pooling under the engine bay, the radiator is leaking. A faulty pipe may also be the culprit. The fluid is red or green, and highly toxic. Because of this, you should clean it immediately and with proper protective gear like gloves. If you don’t see a puddle, low coolant levels may also point to a leak.

Any debris in the hose or water pump can reach the radiator’s core. When clogs get too large, they affect how much coolant runs over the core’s fins, reducing how efficient the equipment is. You may also see rust that can cause clogs and reduce how well the radiator cools the system.

4. Overheating

The radiator’s job is to cool the engine. If your machine is running hot, something is malfunctioning and needs attention. Avoid using the equipment until you repair the radiator so that you don’t cause more damage.

5. Pressure Problems

Radiators should produce between 10 and 30 pounds per square inch (PSI) of pressure. When your machine drops below that range, your radiator is struggling. This often happens when the core corrodes, suffering damage that renders it inoperable.
