Epoxy floors are common in garages, warehouses, and other industrial spaces. They’re durable and can last for years with proper maintenance, even with high traffic and impact from heavy machinery. The maintenance tips below will help you keep your floors in excellent shape.

How to Maintain Epoxy Floors

1. Avoid Soap-Based Cleaners

Generally, you don’t need a cleaner for your epoxy floors. Use a broom to sweep up dirt and dust and wipe off spots with a wet towel. If you have a persistent stain, use a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser to clean it off.

2. Remove Dirt & Grit

Epoxy is a soft material, and dirt and grit may embed in your epoxy floors if you walk over the debris and press it down. Before moving heavy machinery across your floors, thoroughly vacuum the ground to remove any loose dirt, rocks, or debris.

3. Eliminate Stains

epoxy-floorsEpoxy is a hardy compound, but machinery oil, vehicle chemicals, and other materials may stain it. You should quickly wipe away any hazardous spills with a towel. If stains are concerning, use a gentle scrub brush and water to clean the area. Never use cleaners that have citrus or acid in them—these chemicals will damage your epoxy floors.

4. Mop Floors Frequently

High-traffic areas will accumulate debris and dust over time. Use a mop with either a foam or microfiber head to clean the flooring gently. A cleaning solution that is a mix of water and ammonia is best for removing surface stains.

5. Use a Deck Brush

If you have a situation that requires serious cleaning, choose a deck brush with soft bristles to remove the mess. Alternate between using a cleaning solution mixture and pure water to clear up as much as possible. After you finish scrubbing, wipe down the surface with a towel or let the floors air dry.
