Car trailers are useful for hauling different items, whether it be camping gear for the weekend or a load of furniture during a move. However, with the variety of features that each has to offer, selecting the right product can be a challenge. Narrow down your options by considering the top new and used trailers and determining which best suits your needs.

Types of Car Trailers

1. Enclosed Utility Trailers

Box-like in appearance, these trailers are made to protect materials from the elements. They typically measure 20- to 24-feet in length and stand at approximately 7-feet in height. New and used trailers can average a 9,995 pound GVWR and provide plenty of interior surface space for mounting safety racks and hooks.

2. Single Car Trailers

used trailersThese trailers tend to come with a 7,000 to 12,000 gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR). They average approximately 17- to 25-feet in length and feature a durable framework for hauling. Some are made with ramps to accommodate small vehicles, such as outdoor equipment, motorcycles, and ATVs, while others provide a full flatbed for stacking items of various sizes.

3. Goose-Neck Trailers

The slight curve along the length of the hitch makes it easier for vehicles with this trailer to manage larger loads. For a trailer that measures 25-feet in length and 102-inches in width, manufacturers estimate a GVWR of approximately 25,000 pounds. The open steel runners and a floor that’s flush with the fenders ensure optimal stability throughout the trip.

4. Dump Trailers

These new and used trailers lift directly up off the frame, tilting at an angle to simplify the unloading process. They measure approximately 12-feet in length and have a 14,000 pound GVWR. The bed of the trailer features a low set of walls around the perimeter to keep items from rolling off. Detachable ramps are also available for easy access to load and unload.
