Moles can destroy gardens and ruin a perfectly groomed lawn, creating considerable damage. As destructive as they are, if you can’t curb their invasion, you may need wildlife removal services to reclaim your lawn and garden. If you want to prevent a mole problem, below are several measures you should take.

How to Keep Moles Out of Your Yard

1. Install a Barrier

Moles are incredible tunnelers, but they stay close to the surface. If you have a small garden or lawn that you want to protect, construct vertical barriers to prohibit their progress, and avoid the need for wildlife removal.

For this to work, you need to bury either wire mesh or a rock barrier around the perimeter of the space you are protecting. Ensure it is at least two feet below and one foot above ground level so that moles don’t slip under or over.

2. Use a Deterrent

There are also electronic devices that emit pulses that disturb moles and prevent them from digging any further. One theory is that the buzzing will convince approaching moles that they are intruding in another mole’s territory, forcing them to turn around.

3. Interrupt the Food Chain

Aside from barriers and deterrents, try using predators to your advantage. One method is to set up nesting boxes for owls, which are natural predators of moles.

Eliminating the mole’s food source is another option. Since moles feed on grubs, they will migrate to areas with high concentrations. You can do this by using insecticides, but cutting back on watering your lawn during dry seasons is a natural alternative. This prevents the grubs from having the moisture they need to thrive.
