If you’re planning a new window installation at your home this spring, you have a lot of options to choose from. To select the best ones for your design and needs, learn more about some common styles below.

Which Window Installation Is Right for Your Home?

1. Double-Hung & Single-Hung

Double- and single-hung windows both have two sashes, which are the upper and lower parts of the window. With single-hung, only the bottom sash can be moved up and down, as the upper sash is fixed. Single-hung windows are often very affordable, which makes them perfect if you're renovating on a budget. With double-hung, both sashes can be moved for better ventilation and easier cleaning.

2. Casement & Awning

Casements have hinges on either side, which allows them to open outward. Awning windows also have hinges, but they're situated at the top of the frame. Both casement and awning windows are excellent for enhanced ventilation, especially when paired with picture windows. Still, casements have an added benefit of increased energy-efficiency due to their tight seal when shut.

3. Picture

4. Bay & Bow

Unlike standard windows, bay and bow types jut out from the side of the home. Not only is this an interesting architectural feature, but it also provides additional seating with a picturesque view. Bays typically have three openings, while bows can have four or five.

5. Slider

Sliders open side to side, as opposed to up and down like double- and single-hung. Some slider windows have one fixed side, while others have two movable sides. Much like single-hung windows, sliders are also extremely affordable due to their simplified construction.
