Overhead doors provide access to your parking garage and bolster security. However, when various components start to break down, it’s only a matter of time until the entire system stops working. Become familiar with the most common issues below, so you know when to secure timely repairs.

When to Get Parking Garage Door Repairs

1. Loud Noises

While garage doors do emit some noise during operation, it shouldn’t be an excessive amount. If you hear any squealing, then the materials could be out of alignment and at risk of getting stuck. Grinding may indicate a need for lubrication, while rumbling might hint at a problem with the tension springs.

2. Worn Rollers

Over time, the materials can wear down and pop out of the track. While metal isn’t as susceptible to this issue, it can corrode and rust.

Perform a visual inspection at least once a year to determine the need for replacement.

3. Cable Damage

Cables provide steady support as the overhead door climbs up and down the track. With the weight of the panels, it’s common for cables to wear out after years of use.

Watch for shaking while the door is in motion, as this could reveal the cables are having trouble with the weight. Also, look along their length for visible fraying and rust that might jeopardize the stability of the system.
