With summer around the corner, you may be planning a special beach excursion or a poolside stay at home. Whichever you choose, it will likely involve wearing a swimsuit. However, if you’re concerned about shaving and getting razor bumps, consider scheduling waxing services. The guide below discusses waxing further.

What You Should Know About Waxing Services

Is waxing better than shaving?

With shaving, hair is only cut off from the surface of the skin by the razor. Conversely, waxing removes the hair by the root, which keeps the skin smooth and supple longer. It also causes hair to grow back finer and sparser. Pulling the hair out by the root damages the follicle, which alters the texture of hair over time.

Which areas of the body can be waxed?

Virtually any area of your body that can be shaved can also be waxed. Most salons offer waxing services for the legs, underarms, chest, stomach, and bikini area. Multiple areas of the face, including the chin, upper lip, eyebrows, and sides of the face, can also be waxed.

What should I do before my appointment?

waxing serviceWaxing works best when a little bit of hair is present, so refrain from shaving for at least two weeks before your appointment. If you typically use products containing retinol, skip them for at least one week. Retinol creams and ointments make your skin more sensitive, which can make waxing more painful. You should also avoid Accutane, a common acne medication, for at least a month before your appointment.

How does waxing last?

Results vary depending on how often you wax. If it’s your first time, you’ll most likely remain hair-free for about three to six weeks. The longer you wax, the longer it will take for hair to grow back between treatments.
