Wallpaper adds charm and character to any interior space, whether it’s a commercial office or the inside of a home. While it doesn’t require significant upkeep, there are a few practices you should follow and avoid to maximize the life span of your wallpaper installation

Do:

Dust your wallpaper regularly.

Dusting the wallpaper at frequent intervals will keep surface dust at bay. Use a microfiber cloth or duster for areas you can reach. To remove dust from higher areas of your walls, use an extendable duster or a vacuum attachment.

Know your wallpaper type.

For instance, while vinyl and fiberglass-based papers can be cleaned with a damp cloth, bamboo, fabric, and hybrid materials should only be dry-dusted.

Don’t:

Neglect any stains.

Grease stains, handprints, and similar discolorations on vinyl and fiberglass wallpaper can typically be eradicated with a gentle at-home solution. Mix two parts water to one part vinegar and gently apply it to the stain with a sponge. Then wipe it down with a clean, damp sponge.

For fabric, bamboo, or hybrid wallpaper, contact the manufacturer for stain removal instructions.

Oversaturate your wallpaper.

Depending on what type of wallpaper installation you’ve chosen, you may never need to do a full, deep clean, as only fiberglass and vinyl should get washed. Regularly wipe down these materials with a gentle soap and water mixture applied to a soft sponge to keep them looking fresh. However, avoid saturating the wallpaper, especially along the seams, as too much moisture can cause it to warp or peel.
