Vinyl is a popular material for residential garage doors because it’s relatively easy to maintain, attractive, and durable. Keeping it clean will maintain its beauty and function for many years to come. Follow the tips below to keep your new door in pristine condition.

3 Steps for Cleaning Vinyl Residential Garage Doors

1. Scrub the Door

In a bucket, mix in one or two tablespoons of gentle dish soap, or follow the directions on a specialized cleaning solution for vinyl. Use lukewarm water if your door has a lot of sticky grime on it. Never use an abrasive to scrub or a sharp object to chip at grime; this can damage your door.

Scrub the surface using a rag. Target one section at a time so the soap isn’t allowed to dry; this can damage the door’s finish. Rinse it off and repeat as many times as needed to leave the door clean.

2. Clean the Tracks

Immediately wipe any metal parts dry, since prolonged exposure with water may cause corrosion. Spray a little bit of lubricant on the moving parts, such as around the wheels, and wipe off the excess.

3. Power-Wash the Surface

Power-washing can be used for a door with more stubborn grime on it that a rag won’t remove. Hire a professional to do this, since the wrong equipment or technique can damage your door. They will hold the pressurized water at a safe angle and distance, so it removes buildup without getting water underneath the outer layer.
