Concrete is a versatile and durable material that can be used for many surfaces in your home, including your patio, driveway, and countertops. However, like any material, it’ll fade and stain over time. To keep yours looking like new, follow these useful cleaning tips.

Exterior Concrete

Exterior concrete can accumulate dirt, grease, and rust stains over time, though these can be removed with a pressure washer filled with trisodium phosphate and water. If you prefer not to rent a pressure washer, spray your surface with a garden hose and then apply trisodium phosphate and scrub it down with a stiff-bristled brush.

concreteIf you notice rust stains on your concrete driveway or sidewalk, apply distilled white vinegar to the surface. After 30 minutes, scrub it with a stiff brush and rinse. Alternatively, if there are mildew stains, use a chlorine bleach and water solution. Combine one cup of bleach per gallon of water, clean the area with a hard brush, and rinse.

Interior Concrete

Concrete indoor flooring can also become dirty and develop stains if spills aren’t cleaned up immediately. To keep these surfaces looking pristine, sweep them a few times a week to control dirt and dust buildup.

It’s also important to mop these floors once a week. Combine two gallons of warm water with two teaspoons of dishwashing liquid in a bucket, then mop your floors with the mixture.
