Winter is finally tapering off, and spring is about to begin. With it comes warmer days, leading to more animals and people enjoying the outdoors again. While beautiful, the season presents a difficult time for drivers. From changing weather patterns to increased traffic, the roads can get dangerous. If an accident occurs, car restoration options are available.

What Causes Spring Car Accidents?

1. Potholes

Winter may finally be over, but the damage caused to the road will remain. Over the season, snowplows kept streets clear, but they also likely cut up the pavement, creating potholes. They went unnoticed during the winter because the snow filled in the cracks. With the snow finally melting, the uneven roads will impact your wheels, suspension, and the alignment of your car.

2. Increased Rain

Car RestorationThe combination of melting snow and increased rainstorms will make the roads slippery, sometimes causing skidding. If that happens, gently take your foot off the gas, steer in the direction you want your vehicle to go, and lightly apply pressure to the brakes.

Hailstorms often occur in spring, too. Hail is made of small chunks of ice that will crack windshields when cars are moving too fast. The road after a hailstorm could be hazardous as well, potentially leading to accidents if you’re not careful.

When on the road in rainy or wet conditions, drive slower and don’t use your cruise control. You’ll pay closer attention to the road and have better control of your vehicle when the feature is off.

3. Motorcyclists & Bicyclists

Bikers tend not to drive their motorcycles during the winter but bring them back out during the spring. Likewise, bicyclists take advantage of the warmer weather to work out again. Avoid injuries and the need for car restorations by slowing down when you bikers on the road. When passing them, provide a wide berth.

4. Wild Animals

Animals come out of hibernation during the spring, often crossing roads at inopportune times while looking for food. In fact, Rochester leads the state in the number of deer collisions in both urban and suburban areas. While deer accidents tend to occur during the fall and early winter, the animals are still active in the spring, as are raccoons, stray dogs, and squirrels.
