Living in an apartment means you have limited space, which becomes particularly apparent when you have a pet cat. You don’t want their litter box to be a prominent feature in a pet-friendly living space, so you’ll want to find ways to mask it. By following these helpful tips, you’ll keep your cat’s litter box hidden away.

How to Mask a Litter Box in Apartments

1. Use Curtains

If you have furniture with space underneath, such as end tables, you can use them to store a litter box. Place your cat’s box underneath the fixture, and then wrap a decorative curtain around the perimeter. The litter will be hidden while still giving your cat easy access to use it.

2. Wicker Baskets

Baskets are a functional solution and add a decorative touch to any room. Place the litter box into a large basket, then install a small opening in one of the basket’s sides so your cat can easily access their bathroom. When changing the litter, take off the basket’s lid, remove old and add fresh supply without having it be visible in the apartment.

3. Upcycle Furniture

ApartmentTurn old pieces of furniture into the perfect hiding spot for your cat’s litter that also acts as a pleasing piece that ties a room together.  You can remove the bottom row of an old drawer to create space for a litter box, then cut an opening for the cat on the side. Keep it hidden by attaching an easily removable façade on the front for when you need to clean out the box. Your cat’s litter will remain out of sight while also giving you usable storage with the remaining top drawer.

4. Incorporate Plants

Plants allow you to mask a litter box, even in one-bedroom apartments. Peace lilies are a great option since they’re large enough to hide the box and easy to maintain throughout the year. Place a few of the plants in your cat’s designated corner, then put the box behind them. Your cat will have easy access and the litter will be out of sight.

5. Inside Cabinets

You can transform any cabinets on the floor into a hidden litter box. Remove the bottom shelves, cut a panel out, and install a magnetic pet door flap. Your cat will be able to get in and out whenever they need to. Whenever it’s time to clean their litter, open up the cabinet and remove the box.
