Fear is a normal human emotion that protects people from danger. For some, however, their fears can be crippling, even when there is no imminent danger present. If you’re suffering from this problem, a therapist can help by using treatments such as hypnosis and Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT.

How Do Hypnosis & EFT Differ?

At Hypnotic Solutions, Margaret uses two methods to help people with their various psychological and physical issues—hypnosis and EFT. Between the two, the former is more famous. Both aim to put the patient in a relaxed but conscious state to address a problem or find its source. However, each treatment is carried out in a different way.

Hypnosis makes use of a person’s heightened sense of awareness under a trance or hypnotic state.  It lets you release your fears in a controlled environment since you still have full use of your faculties.

hypnosisOn the other hand, EFT involves lightly tapping the body’s meridian points to restore the balance. Disrupted energy flow in the meridians often results in physical pain and negative emotions, tapping the meridians helps to release negative emotions, and can help in reducing unwarranted fears.

How Can They Help With Phobias?

Many people turn to a hypnotherapist to alleviate some of their fears or face their phobia. In a hypnotic state, your relaxed subconscious becomes more receptive to suggestions since it isn’t limited by rationale or analytical thinking. Your hypnotherapist will try to find why you have a phobia and what you felt when experiencing it. From there, they may give constructive suggestions or behavioral changes to help alter the mindset.

During an EFT session, you have to identify your issue first and focus on the negative. Before you tap the corresponding meridian point, think of an affirmation that empowers you. While tapping the meridians and focusing on the negatives, the procedure will help elevate the negative emotions being experienced.  Thereby, reducing the anxiety or stress over your phobia. Studies have shown how EFT aided in treating psychological distress in some people.
