If you have a collection of wines or other types of liquor, moving and storage is a challenge. Bottles are easily breakable if they're dropped or if they rattle against one another. The right moving supplies and techniques can help you prevent losses.

What Moving Supplies Will You Need?

If you're worried about your wine, and you're willing to pay extra to keep it safe, specialty wine boxes are specifically designed to keep bottles safe. Their foam cells hold bottles and cushion them against impact, minimizing breakage. For a more affordable option, you can use small cardboard boxes with cell dividers, plus some packing paper, cushioning wrap, or other packing materials.

How Should You Pack Your Wine?

Moving SuppliesFirst, go through your collection and decide what's actually worth paying your movers to transport. The farther you're going, the more expensive it is to move every pound of your belongings, so it's smart to thin out your collection if you can.

Next, count up how many bottles you have and sort them by size and shape. Get enough boxes and other moving supplies to hold every bottle. Check each box for wear and weak spots and reinforce the bottoms with plenty of tape to prevent heavy bottles from breaking through. Don't try to pack more than a dozen bottles in one box at most.

Keep the bottles upright and wrap them individually, using enough paper or cushioning material so that when you place the bottle into its cell in the box, it doesn't move if the box is shaken. Tape the box shut, label it clearly with the contents, and write "fragile" and mark which end is the top.
