Keeping the glass in your home streak and dirt-free can be a challenge - especially if you’ve been using the wrong supplies. Luckily, a few tweaks in your cleaning routine can make all the difference. Try these five tips to keep your glass windows and mirrors looking crystal clear.

How to Clean Glass

1. Use the Right Cleaner

A general-purpose cleaner will leave streaks on your windows and mirrors. This is why it’s crucial to only use glass cleaner on the surface. If you don’t already have any, purchase one or make your own by combining equal parts water and distilled white vinegar.

2. Clean From Top to Bottom

For streak-free windows and mirrors, mist the cleaning spray over the surface of the glass and then wipe from top to bottom. Use a squeegee, coffee filter, or microfiber cloth for the best results. If your wipe gets too wet, switch it out for a new one.

3. Use Cotton-Tipped Swabs for Corners

Cotton swabs can effectively clean hard to reach areas. To use one, gently run it over corners and crevices. It will lift the dirt and residue.

4. Use a Squeegee for Glass Windows & Shower Doors

Glass WindowsIf you’re working with tall windows or glass shower doors, a squeegee can cut your cleaning time in half. It’s best to opt for a long-handled version. Lightly mist your cleaner over the window or door and then run the squeegee over the surface to clean it.

5. Wash the Windows on a Cloudy Day

If you’re cleaning the outside of your glass windows, avoid sunny days. The sun can dry your glass cleaner before you have a chance to wipe it off, causing streaks.
