Pole buildings are used to house agricultural equipment, products, and livestock. They are built using post-frame construction, so it doesn’t require a foundation. Despite the lack of a foundation, pole buildings offer several advantages, which you can learn about below.

3 Benefits of Pole Frame Construction

1. Durability

Barns can be constructed using other framing methods, but post-frame construction creates a significantly stronger structure. The posts or columns used to support the building are buried four to six feet into the ground, which gives the structure stability. Horizontal girts are then connected to the posts in a manner that protects the interior of the building from excessive snow and wind. For additional protection, trusses are also attached to the frame.

2. Low Cost

Not only will you save on labor costs, but you can also cut your construction expenses down because you won’t need to pour a foundation. Materials used for pole barns tend to be inexpensive as well. For instance, wood is usually cheaper to purchase than concrete or steel.

3. Large Openings

Whether the building will house farming equipment, animals, or large groups of people, it isn’t uncommon for pole barns to need wide openings to safely and efficiently move things in and out of the space. Post-frame construction allows for spacing exceeding eight feet wide for doors and wall openings to accommodate the needs of the building. Unlike other framing methods, this type will not require expensive framing reinforcements to handle the wide doorway.
